4 Things You Can Do to Improve Your Mood!

1.        Taking a walk in nature:

A Harvard study shows that taking a daily brisk walk in a park, garden or green space will reduce breast cancer by 70%.  How does a walk improve your mood?  It gives your mind a chance to escape from the daily grind and electronics giving your stress glands a break. Like any form of exercise, walking activates natural hormones in your body that make your feel happier.  Nature is grounding and tends to make people feel happy when they breathe fresh air, see birds, flowers and walk around a waterway or scenic nature.  Why do you think lovers go for a walk on a date?

2.        Breathing Exercises:

Doing breathing exercises lowers the brain waves to the relaxation state and gives people a feeling of euphoria.  It benefits the general health by reducing stress, tension and providing a general feeling of well- being. It also allows you to calm the mind from all the chaotic activities of the day.  Breathing exercises are easy to do.  For those trying it for the first time, simply inhale 3 times through the nose, hold the breath for the count of 3 and exhale 3 times through the mouth.  Once more experience, you can increase the count to higher numbers such as 5, 9 or 12.   Try it and experience how relaxed you feel!

3.        Indulge:

Yes I said indulge. Indulge in things that make you feel good in small doses.   That does not mean emotional eating or overindulgence that leads to unwanted outcomes.   Have that occasional piece of dark chocolate, that glass of wine, play the game of golf, engage in the favorite hobby, buy that outfit that you have been thinking of.  All of these things in moderation will activate hormones in the brain that make you feel good!

4.        Acupuncture:

What?  Doesn’t that hurt?  The answer is no, the needles are hair thin and most people don’t even feel them. Athletes report that the benefits way out-way any discomfort they may feel.  If your mood has been irritable, sad, angry, frustrated or generally not ideal, Acupuncture may be able to help you find your happy place when the other items fail!  Acupuncture activates endorphins, serotonin and other feel good hormones with the help of the central nervous system to balance mood naturally and leave you feeling happier and with a feeling of general well- being.
